Vay

Game Genre: Turn-based RPG

Remember Working Designs? Remember how they used to bring us great games? Well, if you ever played Lunar, you know what I'm talking about.

Now, whats Vay? Maybe one of the most unknown games ever, but it surelly shouldn't be.

The graphics are sound effects may be horrible (they seems to have come from a Nes game), and the battle system seems very boring at first, but if you invest some time with this game, I'm sure you are gonna love it. First of all, this game has one of the best story lines ever made, and in my opinion, this is the most important aspect of any RPG. The story is sooo good that you won't stop playing, eager to see what is gonna happen next. Also, even though the battle system is a bit lame at first, you WILL have fun later in game, specially in boss battles. This game is NOT easy, you'll see the game over screen a lot, but this is what makes this game so fun. The gameplay is like any classic console RPGs out there: turn-based battles, you get experience to gain levels, get better and better equipments as the game goes on, go to huge dungeons full of random encounters, etc.

Like I said before, the sound isn't all that great, but I can't say the same for the songs. In fact, this game has one of the best scores ever, even the battle songs are catchy. Also, don't expect some midi quality songs here: the entire score is CD quality. The game also features some voice acting, and its very good (we are talking about Working Designs, anyway). And even though the graphics sucks, the game has some neat anime-esque cut scenes that really look nice (for a Sega CD game, of course.)

Anyway, Vay may not be the best game ever, but its solid enough to keep you hooked to the end. Expect a great storyline and very hard boss battles, add some great songs, ignore the bad graphics and sounds, and you will SURELY have fun. Quite recommended. :)

Score: 8/10
