Submission Guidelines
Reviews
The point of them is supposed to be so that people have never played it can get an idea of what it's like, not just as a quick post count boost. This means that a review really ought to at least state:
- what kind of game it is (platformer, puzzle, vertically scrolling space shooter, etc.)
- what happens in the game
- Your opinion of it
- some other details, like what makes it unique, interesting, or terrible
- If someone else has already reviewed a game you don't need to restate whetever they said, but you do need to add to it rather than just saying "I agree this is a good game"
Background information, specifics on gameplay, etc. are nice extras to include.
What not to include
- People whose reviews don't meet the guidelines will have their review deleted. There are tons of reviews that essentially just say "This game rocks! I loved it as a kid"; these reviews will be deleted.
- People who submit reviews that are obviously just an attempt to get a higher post count (like copying and pasting an identical review into several games, or posting blank text as a review) will have their post count lowered for trying to cheat.
- Swear and use explicit sexual references in the reviews. We're trying to make the site family-friendly, there's no need to make detailed sex jokes, ESPECIALLY about kid's games
- Use multiple emoticons
- Try to be cute by intentionally mispelling words, etc. Here's an example of what to avoid: "oso nown in jpnese as ex-ranza, dis cool horizontal robot/cyborg shmup is technically an impressive & visual treat! lots o actions on screen wiv fas paced actions dis is a game no shmup fan shud b w/o" Not so easy to understand, and just kind of irritating...
- Base the entire review on another game. For example, if your review of metal slug is just "Like contra but cooler" than people who haven't played Contra won't know what you're talking about. The preferred alternative would be to say that it's a side-scrolling shooter with multiple weapons, etc. etc. and then compare it to contra. Ditto for fighting games; it's OK to compare final fight to street fighter but a review needs to have more than just a comparison.
- Post a review in another language. While we encourage members from across the globe, any given member is more likely to speak or read english than your native language.
Screen Shots
- Do not steal screenshots from other sites. Any screenshot submitted with a logo that indicates you didn't make it yourself will be deleted and your account will possibly be suspended.
- Do not submit more than four screenshots for the same game, and if screenshots already exist try to get shots that show something new. If you submit several screenshots of similar things they won't all be accepted. Try to show different aspects where applicable (like different modes of the game, or demonstrate a weapon or something).
- Screenshots should show the game itself (so people know what it will look like), not the title screen, or shots from the opening animation, etc.
- Submit screenshots of a decent quality; if they're too small or grainy they'll be rejected. A good target size is about 4" wide by 3" tall.
