Frequently Asked Questions

Here you'll find answers to a plethora of possible questions you may have. If your questions isn't answered here feel free to ask it in our forum; one of our members will be more than happy to answer.

Is there any limit to how much I can download?
No. In the past we had a variable limit, but we've recently removed it. The only limiting factor we place on accounts is a limit of one download every two minutes. This limit only applies to files larger than 2MBs. So if you're downloading Atari or NES ROMs you're not going to see any limits.
The ads on the download pages are annoying, is there a way to not see them?
Yes, there's two ways to remove the ads. 1) If you donate $15+ your account will be updated so you no longer see ads. 2) If you get a post count of 500+ in our forum you'll have the option of not seeing the ads. But be careful not to spam the forums, if you do you might get suspended, and lose the ability to download altogether.
Can I use a download manger to resume my downloads?
Yes and no: our system is designed to prevent file theft and so limits the time you have to download. If you take longer than the time allotted to you, you will not be able to resume your download - you will have to restart from the beginning. Non-donating members receive links that are valid for 30 minutes, while donating members receive links that are valid for two days.
What's the difference between a ROM and an ISO?
A ROM is a copy of a cartridge based game while an ISO is a copy of a CD or DVD based game. Because CD based systems are relatively new only a few of the very old systems are hosted here on emucation. We will not host PlayStation, DreamCast or other next generation games, if you're interested in these games please purchase them from a used game store or Ebay.
What is a CHD file?
CHD files are used by the emulator M.A.M.E.. They are copies of arcade games that are stored on hard drives within the machine. These games tend to be massive with file sizes exceeding 1GB.
What is a ROM's MD5 Hash?
An MD5 hash is like a ROM's fingure print. It's used to see if your ROM got corrupted during download.
